Illusions:

To feel is to be human
but to feel is to be vulnerable
expect happiness always
normality there is no malady
there is corruption in self-destruction
how it is and how it should be
thoughtless and agonizing
the pressure self-inflicted
are we to blame?
to feel like you belong in a world of diversity
distant from yourself & this world.
influence can define
but is destructive
with time things may improve
but in time things change
like a constant lapping wave
reaching out for the invisible shore
keeping our mouths shut
for fear is prominent here
discard your thoughts and listen
hide the humanity
just listen
wondering why we cut our throats
and drown in our sorrows
reality is blunt and lifeless
we envision something greater
the truth is
we must distract ourselves from thoughts
we are like grenades
when the day is done and we lay awake in bed
thoughts rush through heads
in the night we are alive
drugs
they help us stay numb and lifeless
so we can keep our mouths shut and our thoughts stagnant
day becomes the same as night
trapped in a cycle of oblivion
dreary days seem to last forever
we speak we are heard
yet we are greeted with the same remarks:
just be happy
“don’t take life for granted”
a bland reaction with no attraction
searching for validation
becomes greed and selfishness
the society we’ve created is that of the suicidal
actions speaking louder than words
wreaking havoc on the psyche
normal is that of an illusion
yet we all strive to achieve tranquility
the insanity all confusion
yet we know our capability
we are individuals
we can’t be the same
individuality becomes differentiation
distant from yourself
who you once were
pop the pills
stay numb and feel nothing but guilt and hatred
a society of addiction
obsession to our possessions
you’ve done nothing wrong
but feeling is vain
and you are insane
yes you can fake it
but you may not make it
craving to feel and yearning to be numb
no in between
the day your blood stops churning
will be a relief
when all thoughts cease
you are yourself
you are happy
you are fake
you are nothing
